This document aims to highlight how, within this website www.caritasrwanda.org (hereinafter also the “Website“), the utmost care is taken to adequately protect users’ personal data (hereinafter also “Users“).
Caritas Rwanda, controller of the
Website (hereinafter also the “Data Controller” or “Caritas
Rwanda“), ensures that the personal data of Users collected within the Site
(hereinafter also “Personal Data“) will be processed in a lawful,
correct, and transparent manner, in accordance with best practices.
Personal Data Processed and Purposes
Newsletter subscription
Through the Website, each User
may optionally subscribe to the Caritas Rwanda quarterly newsletter by filling
the appropriate form in order to stay up to date on our initiatives (including
those aimed at donations). To complete this subscription, the following
information must be provided: first name, last name, and email address.
The legal basis for the
processing of Personal Data for the purposes described above is the
registration request freely expressed by the User. Users may unsubscribe from
the Caritas Rwanda newsletter at any time by clicking on the
unsubscribe link in the newsletter or by writing to the email address: info@caritasrwa.org
Receipt of Donations
Within the Website, by visiting
the specific area dedicated to donations, each User can contribute to
supporting the mission of Caritas Rwanda.
In order to donate using the form provided by the Data Controller on the Website, Users must provide, in addition to the donation amount, their first name, last name, email address, telephone number and residential address.
Donations made through the
Website are managed by an external provider that independently collects
information relating to the means of payment used by the User for the purpose
of the donation.
The possibility of donating by
bank transfer remains unaffected, with Caritas Rwanda processing personal data
strictly related to the payment and provided by the data subject.
The personal data processing for the purposes described above is aligned with Caritas’ internal policies and allows to follow up on the User’s wish to donate.
Before You Donate
At Caritas Rwanda, we believe
that every donation is an expression of solidarity and a contribution to
promoting human dignity, peace, justice, and the common good. We are committed
to ensuring that the support we receive is used responsibly and in accordance
with our Catholic values, humanitarian principles, and applicable laws.
By making a donation, you confirm that your contribution comes from a legitimate and lawful sources and is not connected to terrorism, criminal activities, corruption, money laundering, trafficking, or any other illegal activity. Donations must not be intended to support terrorist or extremist organizations, armed groups, political violence, the acquisition of weapons, or other unlawful activities. We expect our donors to share our commitment to respecting human dignity and protecting vulnerable people.
Caritas Rwanda reserves the right
to verify information relating to a donation and, where necessary,
request for additional information. Caritas Rwanda reserves the right to decline, suspend, or return donations if there are substantial facts that they do not comply with its values, safeguarding standards, humanitarian principles,
or applicable legal and ethical requirements.
Donations accepted by Caritas Rwanda will be used responsibly and for approved charitable, humanitarian, and development purposes, in line with our vision, mission and values. By proceeding with your donation, you acknowledge these principles and confirm your commitment to supporting Caritas Rwanda's mission in a transparent, ethical, and responsible manner.
Informative Communications
Data controller, without any specific consent, may use data received from the donors to send communications by email to inform the donors about other initiatives promoted by Caritas Rwanda.
Objection may be
expressed at any time by using the unsubscribe link included in the
communications received and/or by writing to the email address: donations@caritasrwanda.org
Processing Means
Caritas Rwanda assures that Personal Data will be processed only by persons authorized in a confidential manner, abiding by the law and internal rules and regulations.
For the proper pursuit of the
above purposes, it may be necessary to store Personal Data outside Rwanda, in
which case the Data Controller ensures compliance with the best
practices that can be adopted in this regard. The list of these
countries and an indication of the security measures adopted in this case may
be requested from the Data Controller by writing to the email address: donations@caritasrwanda.org
The processing will be carried
out in accordance with the common principles of personal data protection, as
well as through appropriate tools to reduce the risk of loss, destruction, or
violation by unauthorized third parties.
Personal Data will be stored for
as long as necessary to achieve the purposes of Caritas’ processing as
described above, as well as for the time required to properly fulfill the
regulatory obligations in force.
User Rights
Each User is free to contact the
Data Controller at any time to request further information or clarification
regarding the processing of their Personal Data, by writing to the email
address: dpo@caritasrwanda.org
In particular, by writing to the same address, it is possible to obtain:
· Confirmation as to whether User's Personal Data concerning is being processed, the purposes of processing, categories of personal data, recipients and/or categories of recipients, storage period;
· Correction of inaccurate and/or outdated Personal Data previously provided by the User;
· Deletion of Personal Data and the restriction of processing, where legally enforceable;
· Withdrawal of consent to processing originally given;
· Portability of Personal Data and the direct transmission of the same to another data controller.

This Privacy Policy may be
subject to change, and we therefore recommend that you check it regularly.
